Frequently asked questions

Can I get free loft insulation in your area through the Warm Homes Plan?

Yes. Loft insulation is one of the most commonly funded measures under the Warm Homes Plan for eligible your area households. If you receive a qualifying benefit and your home has insufficient insulation or an EPC rating of D or below, you may qualify for free installation. Submit the form to find out.

How much heat does loft insulation save?

According to the Energy Saving Trust, a well-insulated loft can significantly reduce heat loss through the roof in a typical home, cutting heating bills by around £100 to £200 per year depending on the property and current insulation level. The Energy Saving Trust recommends at least 270mm of mineral wool insulation, which funded installations aim to meet.

What type of loft insulation is fitted under the Warm Homes Plan?

Warm Homes Plan-funded installations typically use mineral wool (glass or rock wool) blanket insulation laid between and over the joists to the current standard depth of 270mm. Loose-fill insulation may be used for irregular joist spacing or difficult-access lofts in your area properties. The installer will confirm the specification during the free survey.

Who qualifies for free loft insulation under the Warm Homes Plan?

Eligibility depends on receiving a qualifying benefit (Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Income Support, Child Tax Credit at the qualifying rate, or similar) and having an EPC rating below band C. Your property must have an accessible loft. Owner-occupiers and private tenants with landlord permission can both apply.

My loft already has some insulation. Can I still apply?

Yes. If your your area property has less than 100mm of existing insulation, it may still qualify as a top-up installation under the Warm Homes Plan. The installer will measure the existing depth during the free survey and confirm whether a funded top-up is available.

How long does loft insulation take to fit?

In most your area properties, loft insulation is completed in a single morning or afternoon, usually three to five hours. It is one of the least disruptive home improvement measures. Submit the form now to check your eligibility.
