Frequently asked questions

What is the Nest scheme in Wales?

Nest is the Welsh Government's energy efficiency grant scheme for eligible low-income households in Wales. It is a different scheme from the UK Government's Warm Homes Plan and is administered by Warm Wales on behalf of the Welsh Government. It funds insulation, heating upgrades, and heat pumps for qualifying households. Contact Warm Wales or submit the form below to check your eligibility.

What is the Optimised Retrofit Programme in Wales?

The Optimised Retrofit Programme is a Welsh Government initiative that takes a whole-house approach to energy improvement in social housing and some private properties. It uses detailed energy modelling to optimise the combination of measures for each property. It is administered by the Welsh Government and is distinct from the Nest scheme and the UK Government's Warm Homes Plan.

Is the Warm Homes Plan available in Wales?

The UK Government's Warm Homes Plan primarily applies in England. Wales has its own equivalent schemes, primarily Nest and the Optimised Retrofit Programme. However, the UK-wide Boiler Upgrade Scheme does apply in Wales, offering up to £7,500 off a new heat pump.

Who qualifies for the Nest scheme in Wales?

Nest is targeted at households in Wales that receive means-tested benefits or contain a resident with a long-term health condition affected by the cold. The property must have an EPC rating of E or below. Owner-occupiers and private tenants with landlord permission can apply.

Can I apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme in Wales?

Yes. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme operates in England and Wales. Eligible homeowners in Wales replacing a fossil fuel heating system with a heat pump can claim up to £7,500 off the installation cost. The scheme is not means-tested.

Is the eligibility check free?

Yes. Submitting the form is free and there is no obligation. We will connect you with an accredited installer who can assess your eligibility for Welsh and UK-wide schemes.

What types of property in Glasgow are eligible?

Most residential property types in Glasgow can qualify, including detached houses, semi-detached houses, terraced houses, bungalows, and some flats. The property must be your main residence or a rental property where you have landlord permission. Eligibility also depends on your current EPC rating and heating system.

Is this an official government service?

UK Home Grants is an independent eligibility service operated by Stubo Interactive. We are not affiliated with DESNZ, Ofgem, or any government department. We connect homeowners with accredited installers who administer grants under the Home Improvement Grants for Wales. The grants themselves are government-funded.
