Can I apply for Warm Homes Plan grants as a renter in L73?
Yes, but you need your landlord's written permission before any work can be arranged. If you receive a qualifying benefit (such as Universal Credit, Pension Credit, or Income Support) and your L73 rental property has an EPC rating of D or below, you may qualify for funded energy improvements. Submit the form and we will guide you through the process.
Do I need my landlord's permission?
Yes. The Warm Homes Plan requires written landlord consent before any installation work takes place on a rented property. In many cases, landlords are willing to give consent because the improvements raise the property's EPC rating and can reduce the risk of future compliance costs.
Does the grant go to me or my landlord?
The grant covers the cost of the installation work on the property itself. It is paid to the accredited installer. Neither the tenant nor the landlord receives a cash payment. The benefit to the tenant is lower energy bills and a warmer home.
What improvements can renters qualify for?
Renters in eligible L73 properties can qualify for loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, solid wall insulation, underfloor insulation, air source heat pumps, and smart heating controls. The exact measures depend on the property's current EPC rating and the tenant's household benefit status.
What if my landlord refuses to give consent?
Unfortunately, work cannot proceed without landlord consent. However, the landlord may also be able to apply directly for grants under the landlord route of the Warm Homes Plan. You could point them to the landlord section of this site to check their own eligibility.
