Can I get a grant to replace electric heating in BT12?
Yes. Homes that rely on direct electric heating (panel heaters, convectors, or similar) are prioritised by the Warm Homes Plan because electricity per unit is significantly more expensive than gas. Eligible BT12 households can receive a funded heat pump and insulation package. Submit the form to check your eligibility.
Why is direct electric heating so expensive?
Direct electric heating converts electricity to heat at a 1:1 ratio, meaning every unit of electricity produces one unit of heat. A heat pump, by contrast, produces 2.5 to 4 units of heat for every unit of electricity it uses, making it far more cost-efficient. Switching from direct electric to a heat pump can substantially reduce heating bills.
What will replace my electric heaters?
The most common replacement under the Warm Homes Plan is an air source heat pump with a wet radiator system. This provides consistent, controllable heating throughout your BT12 home at a much lower running cost. New pipework and radiators are included in the funded installation.
Can solar panels be installed alongside the heat pump?
Yes. Solar panels are an eligible measure under the Warm Homes Plan and are well suited to homes with heat pumps, as the panels can offset some of the electricity the heat pump uses. Suitability depends on your BT12 property's roof orientation and aspect, confirmed during the free survey.
How much could I save by switching from electric heating to a heat pump?
